Yes, your body language is a key part of interviewing! From the first hello to the final handshake and at every moment in between, your goal is to convey the message that you are not just interested — but excited — about the position at hand.

Slight changes make a big difference here. For example, sit closer to the edge of your seat, slightly leaning forward towards the interviewer. The opposite stature, sitting upright all the way back in your seat, may be proper posture but doesn't effectively convey interest and intensity. You also want your body language to match the tone of your voice and your word selection.

With subtle changes, your body language will help convey the overall image that you are very excited about the opportunity. In today's job market, you can't assume that an interviewer knows you really want the job. I can speak from personal experience sitting on both sides of the table that one way employers can choose between two equally-qualified candidates is to extend a job offer to the candidate who appears more enthusiastic. Can you blame them?  All things equal, they'll naturally favor the candidate who seems genuinely excited about joining their organization.

So, when you head out to that next interview, don't contain your enthusiam. Don't leave them guessing! Get into the habit of wearing your emotions on your sleeve, professionally-speaking, of course. Through not just your words, but your actions and reactions, let them see your level of commitment, passion, and energy. It will add to your "hire-ability."
