The short answer: Yes. 

And here's why:  The biggest reason you should send a thank you note is not to thank the interviewer but rather to capitalize on another opportunity to reiterate your candidacy. Doing this well, though, requires much more substance than "thank you for taking the time to meet with me yesterday afternoon." It requires thoughtfully drafting a follow up to points discussed during an interview and/or reiterating reasons why you're a strong candidate for the position. The candidate who sends a well-written, compelling thank you note is putting his/her name in front of the hiring manager one more time. In this job market, it makes sense to do everything in your power to stay ahead of the competition. Thank you notes are a "free" opportunity to market yourself. If you're not doing it, someone else is.
